Previously Apple would do a "DIY" replacement for faulty AirPods Pro, i.e. they'd stick a hold on your card and send you a new pair. Now they only seem to do that with AppleCare+.

For me, I have had to send in the faulty pair and they are "repairing" them before sending them back. They've been in less than a week (including the bank holiday) and are due for delivery today. I will be interested to see if they've repaired them or just replaced them.

I did this last week and they replaced one of the AirPods which they'd determined was faulty. I suspect its always a swap out, then they'll repair the units sent in to be used as future replacements.

That's interesting. Would be good to know if one or both got replaced. Did you have the same rattle issue? how did it come up?

I think you're right. that makes sense actually but never really thought of it.

Got them back now, they've replaced the case and the right AirPod. The left seems to have been left as it was.

All turned around in one day, if it weren't for the bank holiday it would likely have been done in just over 72 hours, quite impressive.

The reason they went in was noise cancelling getting less effective and the ear tip test constantly failing. Unfortunately it's a design flaw so I will probably have to keep doing this.

Interestingly it was also my right one which was replaced, albeit for a different fault.

I agree, its great service, but just worrying about the potential costs once the warranty lapses.
