I can’t figure out if tapping the Airpods Pro will still work as the old one? I don’t really like the idea that I must force press a button to pause music and answer calls etc....

That is probably a game changer for me if that is the case. Will read some reviews tomorrow and see what people think about it.

Based on the info on the specs page, it appears all controls are now force touch on the stems. My concern is, the possibility of dislodging the bud when your in a rush, force touch and wiggle a bud around by accident. The old way of tapping, it wasn’t an issue because your tapping directly on a bud, into your ear...

I think they did that because tapping on the actual headphone would be pretty uncomfortable since they are tight in your ear. Also it could move them out of place and ruin the seal every time you tap.

Yeah tapping the Pro’s does feel uncomfortable, I can see why they changed it, you get use to the new controls fairly quickly.

Personally don't mind either way. Tap was good but i'd be always pushing my series 2 back in and occasionally 'mis-tapping' so i suppose this is a better solution for me. Plus they finally fit properly!

Test them out first. Going by video reviews, it’s not a full squeeze. It almost looks as if you can rest one finger on the back & tap the front, making it similar to Airpods v1/2.

See 2:10 mark here.

I really like the new controls. Have not had an issue where it wasn't recognized, unlike tap which while exercising can be a pain at times. It feels natural and is very easy to find. I had issues with the PowerBeats Pro button at times as well.

I too thought I would've preferred the tapping, but the new squeeze controls work really well. Took me not even a minute to get used to them. It makes a slight clicking sound when you squeeze. I hate the tapping from the regular Airpods now.

Unfortunately I'm returning them today and going to miss the new controls. I expected far superior sound quality from the Airpods and they're not. Might give the Powerbeats Pro a try.

I really miss the tapping controls.

The press controls is fine for many situations, but it's also terrible for others. A few examples:

1. It's getting colder and I often have gloves on when outside. Try pressing the stems with thick gloves, it doesn't work all that well, and it's very easy to accidentally whip out an AirPod Pro that way.

2. When I want to fast-forward a podcast, I usually just double-tap a bunch of times. Works perfectly. Now it's very difficult to do with presses, and it often recognizes it as 3 presses (rewind instead of forward), so you need to double-press, wait, double-press again. Very annoying and time-consuming. I now often just take out my phone and do it there, which defeats the whole purpose of having controls on the AirPods Pro themselves.

3. When you're moving around a bit more unsteadily (running, cycling, or sometimes even just when walking) and you want to use the press controls, you're often just yanking on those things, which is very uncomfortable and sometimes painful to your ears. It's also easy to dislodge them a bit, so the fit is less than optimal, you need to readjust, etc.

All in all not a big fan of this...

I understand why some people dislike the tapping. Personally I've never had issues with it. It seems to me that enabling both would be absolutely perfect for all people and all sorts of situations. Hopefully Apple makes that possible with either a firmware or software update in the future after receiving some real-world feedback from many people.

Is this with the default IOS Podcasts app? If so, can’t you ask Siri to “Fast forward 30 seconds”? I’m sure I’ve done that before.

The real world use case for these new squeezing gestures seems silly as all hell. You have to essentially grab the stem which ends up moving the AirPod around. Compared to a quick double tap. How about allow tapping control and add where you grab them to change volume. This would be a much smarter implementation since the number one requested gesture for AirPods is DAMN VOLUME CONTROL

Also even on apples own webpage for AirPods pro you can see the woman tugging at the damn thing when using the gesture.
