I really miss the tapping controls.
The press controls is fine for many situations, but it's also terrible for others. A few examples:
1. It's getting colder and I often have gloves on when outside. Try pressing the stems with thick gloves, it doesn't work all that well, and it's very easy to accidentally whip out an AirPod Pro that way.
2. When I want to fast-forward a podcast, I usually just double-tap a bunch of times. Works perfectly. Now it's very difficult to do with presses, and it often recognizes it as 3 presses (rewind instead of forward), so you need to double-press, wait, double-press again. Very annoying and time-consuming. I now often just take out my phone and do it there, which defeats the whole purpose of having controls on the AirPods Pro themselves.
3. When you're moving around a bit more unsteadily (running, cycling, or sometimes even just when walking) and you want to use the press controls, you're often just yanking on those things, which is very uncomfortable and sometimes painful to your ears. It's also easy to dislodge them a bit, so the fit is less than optimal, you need to readjust, etc.
All in all not a big fan of this...
I understand why some people dislike the tapping. Personally I've never had issues with it. It seems to me that enabling both would be absolutely perfect for all people and all sorts of situations. Hopefully Apple makes that possible with either a firmware or software update in the future after receiving some real-world feedback from many people.
