My understanding is that AirPods Pro are supposed to switch seamlessly between devices. Does that only apply to iOS 14 devices, or does it also apply to switching between an iOS 14 device and a Mac?

If the latter, it's not working for me. I have to manually switch between listening on my iPhone 11 and my Macbook Pro.

The macOS Big Sur hasn’t been released yet so till then you won’t be able to.

Actually it works kinda seamlessly. Well, majority of time between iOS14 and macOS Big Sur. Sometimes, I gotta do it manually in my MBP 13. The achy problem is that if I take off my AirPods Pro whilst listening to some stuff on macOS Big Sur, the music won't get paused, meaning that the MBP speakers blast accordingly. How can I get that fixed?

I'm running the latest beta of Big Sur and my APP never automatically switch over. They are running the new firmware so, that's kind of disappointing.

Since Big Sur is still in beta I doubt they would help me. Plus all the Apple stores in my area are shut down. Guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the public release fixes the issue.

The auto-switching looks nice at first glance, but can you control it somehow? Can you define when to auto-switch and when not to?
For instance: I'm watching a movie on my iPad and have my AirPods on. Then the phone rings. The AirPods switch automatically to the phone, and I can take the call through them. When the call ends they switch back to the iPad, and the movie continues playing. Marvellous.
But while I'm watching the movie, my daughter starts a Webex meeting on a second iPad, which is also registered to the same iCloud account (i.e. mine). And my AirPods automatically switch to that, and I start hearing her online meeting instead of my movie. And that's not so marvellous anymore.
Can I define some rules, like "you may auto-switch to this device, but never to this one"?

It’s called auto-switching for a reason. Designed to be seamless and Apple never gives you such granular control over anything. The best you can do is create a new account for your daughter on the iPad that you could control.

OK, then can it be turned off completely?
That iPad must be logged in to my account, because I still use it myself quite often. I need it to be in sync with my other devices. My daughter only uses it occasionally.

You can try going into “Bluetooth->AirPods Pro-> Connect to This iPad-> When last connected to this device” instead of automatically on the iPad. That should take care of the auto-switching to iPad. So the next time you want to connect to the iPad you need to manually connect and then disconnect when you’re done.
The iPad should work as it did pre-autoswitch but the rest should be seamless.

It works for me... I know this sounds stupid, but try playing something. They don't just connect when you open your MacBook, but when you start playing something with sound. At least that's what just happened to me.
