So my AirPods Pro (1st gen) are on their last legs. I use them mostly for running and I have never used Noise Cancellation.

My question is, without noise cancellation, are the regular AirPods just as good as the Pro when it comes to sound quality. Do they have the same drivers?

My AirPods Pro 2 provide noticeably better sound quality compared to my AirPods 2.

And I have insensitive ears. I can't distinguish between Apple Music AAC and Apple Music lossless.

Sound quality is always a personal affair, as all our ears are different. Your best bet would be trying all of them in person at the Apple Store or with some other retailers.

Also, since you are running, you will need to make sure that they sit well in your ears without falling out with every step. AP3, for example, are quite wide, compared to AP1-2, which works well for some people (depending on their ear anatomy), but does not work at all for others.

So try them all out. 🖐️

Thanks, that is useful.

I can do that, but I always get self conscious at the store and can’t think clearly. Haha

I had both. Switched from the AirPods (3rd) to the AirPods Pro (2nd). The AirPods Pro have significantly better audio quality. But this only works with ANC enabled due to the adaptive EQ, which gets disabled when ANC is switched off.

Interesting. I never knew that. Might give ANC a try. But impractical for me to use it while running, as I run on the streets

I just read about it. Transparency mode has adaptive EQ, too.

For running, I’d go with the Beats! Better sound than the regular Airpods, and they are sweat proof and stay in your ears 😊

AirPods Pro if you sweat, and want to use in steam rooms, sauna or even light rain. I had to return AirPods because of durability issues with sweating and Apple not recommending use in steam room or sauna. AirPods Pro sound quality was much better for me, transparent mode is great when you are running on the streets.

Thanks all. I tried them out at the store and the AirPods Pro 2 with transparency mode have much better audio quality than the AirPods 3. That’s what I am getting, then.
