Background: Due to the lockdown my AirPod Pros sat on a QI wireless charger for nearly a year. Now the case will not charge on QI and is slow to charge via cable. BUT, the real dilemma occurs when I try using them. They connect to my iPhone and Mac fine but while trying to listen with them I hear the connecting bong noise in one ear then the other a few seconds later. I assume this means that one is connecting then disconnecting while the other pod connects. Sure enough, the sound jumps from one ear to the other as well. They both gain and lose connection and subsequent sound over and over within seconds of each other like some audible ping-pong game in my ears. The battery level shows as 100% for both pods sometimes, some small % for the case most times. Occasionally, the Mac shows their battery level as 0% for left and 100% for right. OR 100% for left and 0% for right. Swapping their charged status when they are not both 100%. Why are they doing this and how can I fix it besides, forgetting device and reconnecting, resetting them in the case and reconnecting, upgrading firmware (I have version 3A283), updating Big Sur or iOS 14 (they are both up to date), restarting my phone and mac (done that too)?
So, to recap: Hearing out of one airpod or the other for a few seconds before they swap connection and sound output. NOT the classic one airpod is not working scenario we are all familiar with. Are they haunted? Did leaving the on the aftermarket charger FUBAR them? Please help, gonna start the 2 hour commute again soon and need them for sanity sake.
