Swapping the tips is easy, but it takes a bit more pull than I expected to pop them off. Don’t be afraid — the tips seem rugged. And replacement tips from Apple will cost only $4 — truly cheap.

I would have guessed $25+
This an intro price until Tim browses the website and blows a gasket at the lost revenue opportunity?

Information is not clear from different sources. I've read this is the cost for one from other sites.
Is this the price for one or a pair of replacement tips?
If for one, then there isn't anything shockingly or surprisingly reasonable about the cost. It's about on par for the various prices Apple charges which is above the cost of tip replacements for comparable, Klipsch, B&O, Bose, Sony...and so forth. Even with the cheapest Klipsch at $10/(2 Pair), you at least will get a selection of your size for two pair.
If it's the price for a pair, then I'd say this is pleasantly surprising.

That anybody finds $4 cheap amuses me. They must cost around ten cents to make if even that much. Great margins there.
