It’s either interference or you just need to re-pair your AirPods with your iPhone. I would start by ‘forgetting’ your AirPods under your settings, then re-pair them.

Mine did the same thing a few days back. Turning Bluetooth off and back on seemed to correct the issue. That’s the first time that it has happened to me, so I was a bit concerned.

I’m on iOS 11.3.

I've had mine since they came out and have never had any issues...until yesterday. I updated my iPhone 7 Plus to the latest iOS and now the sound will drop randomly and all the time. Similar to how the OP stated. Thinking there is something wrong here...

I’ve had the same issue this past week in the music app streaming Apple Music. Started with 11.3

Awhile back I had some similar issues but when I hit either of the volume buttons it would kick in. That is not happening now. I also had to turn off and then back on the Bluetooth

I am having issues with MacBook sound dropping out, still trying to sort out if it is related to 11.3

There is definitely a buffering or audio processing issue with iOS 11.3; I have had issues on my iPhone 7+ since upgrading. Even when the iTunes song is downloaded onto the device, there is stuttering, skipping, and dropping out as if the "bandwidth" is poor. Note that this is using corded EarPods (multiple pairs). Signal strength, airplane mode, battery level (or low-power mode) all have no effect.

Regarding the AirPods, the issue above is mysteriously gone. BUT, every time the APs reconnect to the phone, they usually drop out per the OP within about a minute. Music is still playing and shows to be routed to the APs, but there is no sound. Switching audio playback destination (between iPhone/APs) usually "resets" it and there is no more dropping out after that. Turning off/on Bluetooth resolves it temporarily, as does re-pairing the APs.

I don't know if these issues are related, but they are both annoying.

Just to follow up... After a few chats with Apple Support and re-pairing, resetting, cache-clearing the AirPods several times, I was able to resolve my issue.

It was as simple as resetting/restoring the phone, which I very well knew how to do, but was just reluctant to go that far. For whatever reason, it looks like the iOS music app on my phone was corrupted or otherwise not installed well when 11.3 rolled out.

So, if your AirPod issues are limited to when using them with an iPhone, you might try that resetting/restoring approach if you haven’t already.

I have had the same issues after updating to the newest software. I went to the apple store last night and talked to a technician at the genius bar. We reset the network settings and It fixed my issues. Everyone might give it a try and see if helps.
