My girl friends AirPods (in their case) were left on the arm of our couch after charging which during a moment of excitement were confused for a chew toy by our 68 pound English Bulldog. I caught him in the act within 30 seconds but some damage had been done.

The case is littered with chew marks but the AirPods inside were perfectly fine so I hoped everything would still work. At first when she put them in her ears nothing. I realized one of the bite marks stuck the pairing button down. After about 10 minutes with a very thin knife I was able to pry away enough plastic to raise the pairing button and functionality returned!

I'm not sure the pairing button will work going forward but the flip open connect to your iPhone works and the case still charges so we should be good for now. Overall I'm calling this a durability success story

Glad you caught it before the dog ingested pieces!

The AirPods inside are probably perfectly fine, but...

If this were mine, I'd replace the case so I wouldn't worry about the case battery having possible damage and overheating someday.

I wish they offered a case replacement - I have AirPods myself so at first I wondered if she could simply charge them in my case but then I realized quickly how short the battery is with regards to a workday if you don't have a case with you to drop them in for a recharge.

For now the case is charging the AirPods fine - we shall see soon if the case charges without issue. Definitely only going to charge it right in front of us and not for an extended period of time or on top of anything nice.

They do offer a case replacement for $69:

I have another survival story. A few weeks ago I was walking to my car after locking my front door. I had my airpods sitting on top of my ipad and i had keys, phone and a coffee in the other. Was trying to carry too much. When I opened my door, I dropped my airpod case on my driveway. Set all my stuff in my car then grabbed the airpod case, thinking nothing of it. Well I ended up not using them at all once at the office and when I got back home, pulled in the driveway and got out, I saw a single AirPod sitting in my driveway. It was about 40 degrees, rainy and windy that day. It somehow withstood all of that and didn't move. Popped it in my case and it was good as new. Phew!:)

Lovely.

I would've kissed it.
