With working from home due to Rona, I've really killed the batteries on my 1st gen AirPods that I've had for a while. I can just barely get in an hour webex before switching to the other ear and charging back and forth. With the money I've been saving on commuting, I can easily buy either the 2nd gen APs or the APPs, especially with the APP $199 Good Friday pre-sales (I would also get -5% with my Target redcard). In general, I find the AirPods to be extremely comfortable on calls all day. Any advice on which I should go for with my primary use being phone calls?

Thanks!!

I’ve had both. AirPod Pros for better quality and comfort! Noise cancellation! Huge difference.

I use both, frequently.. if there is outside sound, I use the APP, but if there isn’t outside sound I just use the AP NG..they last longer, can sit in the ear for longer period with essentially no impact. I know this isn’t the scenario most users will have (the option to choose between).. at home, I wouldn’t go beyond the AP NG for phone calls and I think they actually provide better sound for the remote listening than the APP, given the longer boom mic.

Those are some PRE pre sales, since "Good Friday" isn't until April. ;)

It's worth noting, though, that Walmart (?) has them for 169 starting the day before Thanksgiving.

In the same position and picked up the APP earlier this summer. From a sound quality perspective obviously the Pros sound better. From an ease of use perspective the original AirPods win out for me. Easier to get out of the case, easier to put in my ears, and no fiddling once they’re in there. With the APP, it is impossible to not mess with them at some point while talking as the seal will come loose. Happens with the stock tips as well as memory foam ones.

For me, the Pros are when I want to isolate sound around me, but I’m hoping there will be black Friday deals on the gen 2 AirPods so I can pick up a set with a new battery

Thanks everyone!! Good advice all around. I think I'll wait to see if the OG AirPods go on sale further on Black Friday (not Good Friday, ha!), and if so go for those, but if not, jump at the Pros for the relatively lower price difference. Thanks again!
