This might be a weird question. On my original AirPods charging case, the inside of the case got these black stains near the hinge that from what I read ended up being some kind of metal shavings due to a flaw in the hinge. I was wondering if the newer wireless charging case fixed that issue? I hated how my case got kinda dirty no matter how good I kept it clean.

I am actually on Gen 2 AirPods that I got with a non-wireless charging case. I have kept it pretty clean but since it is an "Original" style Charging case, I figure it was going to be prone to the black shavings issue. Since the wireless case is "newer" I was just wondering if it has less of an issue. I'd consider getting one if it does.

Just to clarify, you're not describing the brass-coloured lines on the side closest to the opening (which I had always assumed were the magnets somehow penetrating the casing.

The only way to avoid that debri being pressed into the case from closing lid is to get on top of it as early as possible by wiping it away.

It wasn’t a huge deal for me - just got used to it & despite letting it go for too long, the occasional wipe (wet tissue) still managed to remove some of it.

Just enjoy the AirPods.

Mine are 2's and the case is full of black marks but the AirPods themselves are flawless. Annoying but as long as it works I can live with it. The outside is all banged up as well (thing falls out far too often when I'm under a car I'm working on)

Anyone ever answer if they have the wireless case and if it helps with the black marks? And is this an issue with AirPods Pro as well? Mine are the non wireless charging version of the 2, and are even more gunked up than my airpods 1 case...

Also, after cleaning it up a bit, I have small holes where all four magnets are, as well as some small holes in the center ridge. I think that means the magnets are somehow slowly disintegrating the plastic away on top of them.

That is filthy. You need to get on top of this. Treat the case like you - you shower every day, so you need to give the case a wipe down every day (or every other day). I spray some diluted hospital grade disinfectant on a paper towel to clean the outside my water bottles & use it to also wipe my iPhone/AirPods every couple of days.

Lol I mean it’s literally just metal dust and shavings. Not exactly “filthy.”

I can safely say my AirPods Pro case has never exhibited those kind of shavings (or whatever that black stuff is). I don't clean mine often either (just wipe the AirPods down on occasion, but rarely do any kind of cleaning of the case). That would really freak me out if I opened up my case and it looked like that!
