Does anyone know if there's an updated release date? I've been holding off on buying the AirPods as I'm assuming they'll come with the wireless charging case by default once it's out but it's December already. Are they still expected to drop this month and before Christmas?

No. There has been no confirmation of the updated wireless charging AirPod battery case. I believe it will launch around when the HomePod launches in 2018, which also does not have a release date due to the unknown delay.

The wireless charging case is not going to be included with the AirPods. its an optional add on at $69.

Probably when they sell the mat? Kinda useless right now.

Not really. It makes sense if Apple decides to release the charging case along side the AirPower, that that way the consumer can make the decision if they want to purchase both together or separately versus releasing separate products at different times. Especially given that they will update their website all at once.

I can see Apple possibly transitioning to only have AirPods come with the wireless charging case; maybe 2nd gen. Or at least offer a new purchase option that has that case included, but at a higher price, like $159 regular case and $179 wireless charging case.

That’s what I was hoping for. They’re not selling a wireless charging case for iPhone or Watch separately, makes sense to make the wireless charging case baseline option with the AirPods. Otherwise it’s a blatant ‘screw the consumer’, which wouldn’t surprise me with Apple but I’m hoping it won’t be the case.

The amount of people who will buy a wireless charging mat are pretty slim, so not including it (and raising the price for all consumers) actually makes sense.

Pretty cool. I already have one of those wireless charger pieces sitting around that I had used on my old 7 Plus. All I'd need is the silicone case

Took me about 5 minutes to do, just be careful taking removing the wireless receiver from the sticky packaging, and you’re good go. Silicone cases are cheap on Amazon, any of them will work. I love being able to just pop the AirPod case onto the wireless charging pad and voila, it’s charging without a lightning cable!

Have you ever known Apple to ever release anything in a timely manner? The only company slower than Apple is Valve.
