Airpods wont connect to older Mac

Hello,

I have Gen 2 airpods and I am trying to connect them to my 2011 Macbook Pro. For some reason it just wont show up at all. Do older macs not work with airpods?

I tried looking it up but there was nothing out there for problems connecting with older macs.

Please let me know if you are able to connect them and how.
