Hello Everyone,

I am getting ready to purchase either some new AirPod 2's or new AirPod Pro set of headphones. My use-case is mainly for conference calls (Zoom, MS Teams, etc.) for work and wanted to get a set that has very clear audio quality and good mic setup. Basically, I want the best type of headphones for conference calls so I sound clear to the other people on the call. I have both an iPhone and a MacBook Pro already, so trying to make it easy and stay within the Apple ecosystem.

If anyone could assist with any feedback, thoughts, first-hand experience, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Asif

My wife and I have used both and they work equally well. As expected Pros allow more isolation, which is helpful when sharing the office.
I do think the Gen2 are more comfortable in all day use.

If your main goal is isolation, go with the Pro... but honestly, I find it awkward to talk when the Pros are set to anything but Transparency mode. Either will be just fine for sound quality, especially for people on the other end.

I upgraded to the Pro from Gen 2. Well worth it for me. I can tell the difference in sound and the NC makes a huge difference to me. Using Meets mainly. And then
personally I find the Pro’s more comfortable.

Why not buy both and return the ones you don’t like.
i think for your use case the regular airpods are better

The battery life is hugely better on the Pros, which makes a big difference on calls, at least if your conference calls are anywhere near as long as mine or if you tend to have them back to back.

To be honest, based on conversations I have with people at work though Zoom and Teams, people with any type of Airpods always sound like telephone quality.
Versus people using wired headphones, generic bluetooth headphones, or the built-in mic which sound like normal "high quality" audio.

I haven't tested Airpods Max yet, but I'd agree that both Airpods and Airpods Pro have horrible mic quality for Zoom conferences on the mac. With that said, it doesn't seem to be bad when doing conferences on the iPhone. Im not sure what the difference is exactly, but I suspect there is a proprietary codec used with the iPhone that the Mac doesn't support.

I have both AirPods2 and AirPods Pro. The AirPods2 are the best for conference calling and the like, if you ask me. Unless you need the ANC the ease of putting the AirPods2 in and out of your ears and the comfort are perfect. I only use my AirPods Pro when I really want to listen to music or need the ANC.

I use the AirPods to four conference calls weekly

Since you use these so often and the OP's question is about mic quality, have you heard other people on your conference calls using airpods? How do they sound?

I would say just fine. I’ve never had anyone complain nor anyone ever comment on mine. You can tell it’s not a landline but it certainly isn’t poor.
