I have a first generation Mac Pro and I am in need of an airport card. I was wondering what cards would work (i.e model numbers, part numbers?). If i specifically search for ones for mac pros they are generally are very expensive, but if they are listed for iMac or macbooks, etc. they are cheaper. Can i use one from a different computer? And, lastly, i've seen pci-e broadcom cards from HP and other manufacturers, would this work? This is a lot, but I am trying to get something decent and a reasonable price.

I personally bought a MP Airport Card and installed it in my MBP. It worked fine, no problems with drivers or reception. I imagine it would work in reverse.

At the time I did research into third party cards as well, such as Broadcom and Atheros, and it did work for people in some cases, but you had to use the exact right model that was a match for the Apple cards. Personally, I'd avoid that route. The official Airport cards are not very expensive.
