Hi,

I have a Airport express that is wired to my router. This is downstairs.

Upstairs i have a Airport Extreme which is wirelessly connected to the airport downstairs.

The Express is set to create a new wireless and the extreme is set to extend.

For some reason or another when im upstairs, which means i'll probably be connected to the extreme, i sometimes find that i cannon connect to the internet. When i go into Airport Utility it can only see the Extreme that's up stairs.

If i go downstairs it then allows me to connect to the internet.

Then go back upstairs and cannot get back on the net.

So i have to disconnect the power to the express and then the connection between the two airports is established.

Both are running the latest firmware, 7.6.

Can anyone help?
Thanks

Your Airport Extreme should be directly connected to your internet modem. Your Express should extend the network from the Extreme. Try connecting things like that and see if improves the situation.

For best results, you should run an ethernet cable between the Extreme and the Express. Extending wirelessly results in some significant performance loss.

Surely it shouldn't make a difference what way around the airports are connected?

The express needs to be where it is as it's connected to my hifi.

I guess i'll need to get an ethernet connected if no one here knows of a solution?

Look for sources of interference around the Extreme. If it's close to your hi-fi or other digital equipment, or near metal objects or enclosures, the signal may be getting squashed.

To test, try moving your Extreme to another location upstairs, away from the hi-fi, and so it isn't enclosed in any way. Also try moving it to a higher vertical point.
