ive got a wireless network set up in my house already, but its linksys.....will the AE extend my network or is it only if i have an airport extreme router?

Not quite sure what you are asking, but the Linksys wireless router will work fine with all your Macs. No need to purchase the AE router.

Strictly speaking the AirPort will not be able to extend a Linksys network although it'll be able to add itself meaning you can use it for AirTunes or as a printing hub. There is apparently a firmware hack for some Linksys routers however I've only ever heard mixed reports as to how well these work plus there's obviously no guaranty it'll work well.

If you install some Sveasoft firmware on your linksys, then the airport express can extend your wireless using WDS.
