I am trying to see if the 5g output on my 4th gen airport extreme is working.it seems to be set up ok and says it is using channel 36.

I am using a Proster AC600 dual band wifi adaptor in my PC just to check the local wifi signals.

I can see the 2.4g output ok along with all the neighbours 2.4 and 5g signals.

I have a second 4th gen airport extremes in a different part of the house it does not show the 5g signal (the second one is using channel 100).

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be.

Hey good sir,

Was having a similar issue about a week ago. It tends to do with the channel you are running not matching supported channels with your WIFI Adapter.

To see which channels your WIFI Adapter supports on your Mac,

1. Hit the Apple Logo on the top left of the screen.
2. About This Mac
3. System Report
4. Network Section -> Wi-Fi
5. Under Interfaces you should find your adapter, and a list of Supported Channels.
6. Choose a supported channel, and update your router to match it.

My WiFi speeds went up from like 25mbps to >90mbps after I got my 5G working properly, I've got a 100mbps cable line. Good luck!

EDIT: Just seeing you said you are on a PC. Not entirely sure where to find the supported channels but I would check the Drivers or something.

I have checked the WiFi Adaptor Utility and that does not show the Airport Extreme 5g output but does shows the neighbours 2.4 and 5g signals. Very strange, I can believe on Extreme not working but not 2.
[doublepost=1475518786][/doublepost]I have just changed the 5g channel to 36 and now I can see it phew
