Airport Extreme and Airport Express

Hey folks, sorry for the simplistic question but I would like some advice before buying.

Right now I have an Airport Extreme router; it works great with my iMac, iPad and iPhone, no complaints at all. I want to wirelessly stream my itunes music to speakers throughout the house and Extreme can't do this.

If I buy an Airport Express router can I link this with my existing network to play music throughout my house? I don't want another network, just an add-on to what I have now, will it work?

Also, to wirelessly play my music on remote speakers, does this require anything else? I guess I'm not sure how this works, do I need special speakers?

The AirPort Express can join your existing wireless network. You can connect any speakers to the APE. I have an APE connected to my stereo using a 3.5mm Stereo Male to 2RCA Male cable. I found this video on Apple's Support site, hope it helps. Streaming Music Wirelessly

Yes you can link the Airport Express (AEX) to the Airport Extreme (AE) I've been doing that for over three years extremely successfully. The only additional piece of hardware you need is a cable to connect your AEX to your system. Here is an example of the type of cable that will offer the best sound quality:

BTW if you also have an iPhone you can download the remote app and use the iPhone to control your system anywhere in your house. It's pretty cool!

My room is in the basement and the Airport Extreme is upstairs. There are probably 10 different devices able to connect to the wireless network. If i get a Airport Express and put it downstairs, will it improve my connection and give a bit of a speed boost? Sometimes it can be quite slow. Does extending your wireless network improve speed too?

Apple's website says no. Which is very annoying! My speakers are miles from my modem, and I am not buying a AP Extreme just so I can get an Express!

Are they any ways around this though?
