I have the latest gen Airport Extreme Base Station. Running 10.10.5 on my Mac. I rarely have to restart my AE, but my HP wireless printer that has been working for ages is giving me fits today, so I figured I'd restart the AEBS and see if that helped.

Imagine my surprise that using the latest Airport Utility - v6.x (selecting the AEBS icon - hitting Edit - selecting Base Station/Restart in the menu bar) didn't actually restart the AEBS. It ran through all the right dialog boxes "you might lose network connectivity - are you sure you want to do this - hit continue", but the green light on the AEBS never wavered and I never lost internet connectivity. I tried it twice with the same results.

I finally resorted to using an old copy of the Airport Utility (v5.6.1) and a script that was created to allow it to work under OS X 10.10. Sure enough when I restarted the AEBS using the old Utility, the light went amber for a while, I lost network connectivity, and then the AEBS light turned green and I was back in business.

So, has anyone experienced something similar? If I upgrade to OS X 10.11 and the old Airport Utility no longer works am I relegated to pulling the AEBS power cord to restart it? Anyone got any ideas what's going on?
