I just had a Kernel Panic attack when I was simply browsing the web, nothing else running or hardware added. Now my airport card is not listed. Do you think reseating it would help or does it sound toasted? Its accessible by taking out the battery, right? Its still within its 1 yr warranty. If I did get it fixed would I have to return the whole laptop or just the Airport card?

thanks

Whoa! Let's start with the basics here. Have you repaired permissions, run maintenance scripts? Turn Airport off and then on again? Then try reseating card. Where is the card; what model do you have?

No I haven't repaired permissions yet, I thought that just resolved software issues. Its a 12" Powerbook so I think the card is next to the battery. I can't turn on or off the Aiport as its not listed in Network Utility.

Actually first thing I would've done is reset Open Firmware. Everything else listed is possible.

Reset Open Firmware
-Shut down your computer
-Start up holding down the Apple+Option+O+F
-When you get to the screen that says Welcome to Open Firmware
-Type the following: reset_nvram (This is like resetting the PRAM)
-Should say ok if you did it right
-Then type: reset_all
-It'll reboot the computer

Someone else mentioned reseating the card. That's a good option as well if the card can be reseated. That's only in the older models tho.

Yea not so sure about repairing permissions for this issue? I give that about a 1 and a 100 chance. But hey you can try it.

And he can't turn the airport card on and off if it's not showing up.

Yup, reseating the card worked fine. Thanks for the info about resetting the firmware.
