Why is it that the Original 802.11b Airport card is more expensive than the newer 802.11g Airport Extreme? It seems as though this should be the other way around.

thanks

yeah, the APX cards aren't backwards compatible with machines that require the original cards. that means there's still going to be a bit of a demand for them, and since there's no supply (not "new" supply, anyways), the price is high.

thanks guys, i wanted to get an Airport card for a PowerMac I'm going to be buying in a bit. Anyone know of a cheap location for the older AP cards?

thanks

A better idea for PowerMacs

Buy a PCI Airport Extreme card which has the Broadcom (needs to be correct) chipset.

Sonnet sells one currently that works flawlessly, and it supports 802.11G and B.

Linksys produced one for a while, as well as Buffalo, Microsoft and several other vendors.

Silly to pay $100 for 802.11b..

The Sonnet is a sure fire fix. The other brands you need to research to find the right version of the card. I currently have a Sonnet, a Buffalo PCMCIA card and a Linksys PCMCIA, all look just like an Airport Extreme card (in a MDD, a Pismo and a once was Wallstreet).

I couldnt agree more. I have a wireless USB adapter, but sadly its made by netgear (no driver support :( )

i know a few buddies of mine that spliced their XBOX wireless adapters and used em, and they work great.

I'll look into the sonnet card

Thanks for the help guys
