AirPort problems with C2D iMac

I picked up one of the last model 20" C2D iMacs yesterday.

I am having big problems connecting to the internet through the AirPort connection of the iMac with any reliability. I'm connecting to one of the new AirPort Extreme Base Stations, which works great with my CD MacBook Pro.

I have all the latest updates loaded on both computers and the exact same settings for the network, internet and sharing on both computers. Sometimes the iMac will work normally, other times it is intermittent and will load web pages slowly and the rest of the time it won't connect to the internet at all.

I don't think it's the AirPort Extreme, as the MBP connects to the internet just fine. The 2 computers can also share files between themselves with ease.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to try to fix it?

I have the same problem. My G4 powerbook connects to internet just fine, but my new 24''imac loads website super slowly.........

Just got off the phone with apple support, the problem is the "channel". You can use the MBP to do the following:

Go to airport utility, double click on your base station. You see theres a tab "wireless" in a new window, click on that. You'll see theres a selection for "channel", click on that and select 2 or 6 (the latter one worked for me). Then click update. Wait for the airport extreme to restart, and in the mean time restart your imac. After the imac restart, click on the wireless sign, and choose your wireless network and join!!

I am having the EXACT same problem. I got the previous 20'' refurb iMac at the begining of October. It seems like the computer is "moody". Sometimes it works perfectly and other times it is super slow. I went through applecare and they couldn't find anything wrong. They suggested that I take the machine into the store to see a Genius. Of course when I did that it worked perfectly so they were unwilling to do anything.

I bought a new router figuring that my old router was the problem. That did not help. Having the same issues.

I did change the channel on the router and that has mostly solved the issue. But once in awhile it gets bad.

I have started watching my network with iStumbler and have noticed that sometimes when the issue starts happening all the other networks listed in iStumbler dissapear and the one i am connected to shows a frequency of -1

Does this happen to your other computer too? Maybe try to connect your imac directly to the router, see if it still has frequent dropouts. If so, then there may be something wrong with your internet provider....just guessing.
