this may be in the wrong place =s but hopefully someone can help me:)

i needed my own pc and just inherited an imac g4.
i'm completely new to macs and as i left he said it had an airport for connecting to the internet.
i'm assuming he ment an airport card? but is this enough to connect wirelessly or do you need a base station aswell to connect or can i connect to the wireless router my dad already has?
or do i just need a whole new wireless network adapter?
also do macs work with all the brands out there or do most only work with windows?
sorry if this sounds stupid but it would be great if someone could help:eek:
thanks,
joe
