Airport randomly losing connection.

I got my iMac in late-September and I've never lost connection until I installed Leopard. Sometimes it would stay on, but just lose its connection randomly. I have to turn it off, then on again. This happens every few hours. I download a lot of torrents, so it's important for me to keep a steady connection to the internet. Any help? Thanks.

My iPhone and other Wi-Fi devices stay connected all the time.

Is it anywhere near a microwave? My mini used to flake out a little when the microwave was on - it sat between the mini and the router that was upstairs.

Funny about the microwave. I brought my imac home this week and its in the kitchen, I've never randomly lost signal before, but I have this past week for the first time. And, there's a microwave directly between me and the router back of the house. Interesting.

I had the same issue when I was streaming music (& torrents). After tearing my hair out, eventually fixed it by changing the Airport channel to 1 (or 6 or 12 depending on which one is quietest). It was set by default on Automatic and I think it keeps changing channel for the quitest signal. Each channel change resulted in a disconnect and the wireless devices struggling to connect again.

Anyway, worked for me, not a signal drop since (about 4 weeks ago).

I'm having wifi problems as well. Oddly enough, I only experience it with my iMacs (both Intel) and my iBook's wifi has been flawless so I think it's an Intel related problem. Probably something to do with drivers.

The weird thing is, whenever my iMacs lose connection, my Airport icon still reports a full signal and my router's device list still shows my two iMacs as being connected. But, whenever I try to reach anything on the network, let alone the internet, I just time out.

If it started with Leopard - see if any settings or "interface robustness" have been changed since you migrated.

Reset your router (toggle power off, then on after a few seconds). Whenever my roomie runs a lot of torrents or transfers a ton of files - my router will be connected - but won't push data.

Make sure your router isn't TOO close to your imac, or any conductive object.

Try rotating your router antenna(s) by 90 degrees, see if that improves reception.

I don't know how well the Aluminum iMac antenna works compared to the white ones (metallic body vs plastic) but it could have an impact.
