Would they make you take the iPad out of your bag at the security checkpoint? Like you have to remove your laptop? What about the iPad?

Chances are very good that yes, they will
make you remove the iPad at security.

No big deal. Just throw it in the TSA
storage bin like you would your laptop.

Good question.. I was about to ask this.. When I travel with my Kindle (I travel almost every week for work) I have to take it out of my computer bag and place it in the bin with my shoes etc..Not in a separate bin like my laptop..

I have now been through security twice in the US and twice in the Caribbean and no one has made me take the iPad out of my bag. I haven't asked about it, I just have put in on the belt while still in my bag. I am a crewmember so sometimes they are a little more lenient with us but they ALWAYS stop my MacBook if I forget to take it out....and they have not yet done so with my iPad.

So the initial signs are good!

TSA actually used my iPad today for a quick training

When I got to the airport and put in the bin TSA did not know what it was. I explained it was the iPad and they all became very interested. They brought everyone working over to the screening monitor and were explaining what the size of the iPad looked like so everyone would know. It was a pretty comical experience. Another TSA asked if I would show him how it worked for a minute. All in all is was a pretty comical experience

Member there were issues with the Macbook Air going through, as it lacked a hard drive, so the screeners wouldn't know it was a definite computer.
