I thought I would share this at least if there is anyone there like me who tends to be reluctant to upgrade all the times with every new software update.
I eventually decided to install the most recent update to the airport software. Note that the update is for airport extreme. My setup: I have a "snow" base station, but since I have a FW800 Dual 1.25, my airport card is the newer "extreme" type. Anyway, anyhow, since the update, I have a visibly, very significant improvement in my internet speed connection. I used to have quite a delay before the update, now it is incredibley snappier. There is no reason to believe this has anything to do with the connection speed itself but rather better communication with the base station. I wish I could really tell what it is.

Are you sure its not just your imagination. because the update was for base stations to upgrade to the new specs of 802.11g...and if you have a Snow base, I dont think it will change anything. And i dont think the update changed the card. I think it just changed it so that it accepts the new specs.

and also the update was also to allow 3rd party cards to work...

i dont know...i didnt notice a change in speed, and i have the AP X base and the linksys 802.11g card.

no, I am not sure of anything - that is the whole point. But it is not my imagination either - it is so much faster (like it should be, no more though). Again, I wish I could tell what happened.
It is however such a coincidence that it happened undoubtly after I did the upgrade. may something was bad with my settings, so it got fixed with the update while not having anything to do with whatever was new with it.

hey have you played around with the settings in the Airport Admin?
