Airport "Virus" ? what?

Recently my pbG4 has only picked up wireless networks within a very reduced range of what it normally is capable of. Could my card be going bad, is that possible?

Or could it be these "mysterious" networks I found on my airport scanner?
Before there was one titled "Jaminator" and every time that was visible (i wasnt connected to it!) my network would drop. Now I get one called "virus_broadcast." I don't notice that my connection drops when this one is visible but i do notice that this started appearing around the time my airport card seems to not connect for crap! While in class, my peers have full connection, i have none. I took out my card and plugged it back in to no avail.

Anyone know whats the deal?

Sometimes software updates can alter the reception you get with your wireless card. I know it has happened to many members on the board. It could also be that the other computers are interfering with your reception. Wireless signals may be invisible but they still bump into each other.

There is no "virus". That is the name of the wireless network. But I'm sure this thread will get a lot more views with virus is in the title...

you might want to check if your card is bad... but i think it has nothing to do with jaminator or virus broadcast

i dont think it is the other computers interferring since im closest to the router and they ALL have full reception, no one else looses any signal strength, just me! Unless i have the runt airport card and they all attack me and steal my signal and no one else

and there is only one router close to this area, so this "virus_broadcast" must be some fake network! I know its not a "virus" but i still figured it was some jamming signal! damn thing!

the virus network could be
1. a farther router
2. a peer to peer network

hmm... what kind of airport card do you have, is the router everyone connected to possibly a 802.11a connection? i dont think so, but that would certainly explain why you dont see it
