So I finally decided to hook my printer up to my airport system that I've had for about a year and a half. I looked up on the mac website that it is just suppose to start printing. Well it's not printing.

I went in and looked around for a while and under System Prefs, Print and Fax, Set up Printers, Utility it's asking for my printers IP address???? I'm lost! Someone please fill me in?

Look under "rendezvous" or "bonjour" printers.

Also, depending on what printer it is, it MAY need a driver...

What printer? How connected? What OS? What Mac?

Commonly, for network printing you need to actually delete the printer drive you had installed previously, before you re-set it up with the airport.

ROFL...Lexmark!!! LOL! :D

You need to look under Bonjour(aka Rendezvous) for the printer. It will not show up an IP Printer because its not an IP Printer. You may need to install/re-install drivers for it to work.

Rendezvous (now called Bonjour) is basically zero configuration wireless networking. For example, I have an AirPort Extreme Base Station with my Brother Laser Printer connected to it via USB. All I had to do was plug the printer into AirPort and it automatically added itself into my PowerBook as a printer as soon as my PowerBook picked up the AirPort signal.

It will only work like that as long as you already have the printer drivers installed.

This is a godsend for businesses and schools as you can take a brand new printer out of the box, plug it in and turn it on and its already added to everyone's computer. True plug n' play....
