On my MBP, the airport always turns off after a while. Even wired internet fails sometimes. Is there a way I can prevent this turning of of internet? My dad's computer on the same router doens't do this, so I assume its my computer. Is there a way to fix it?

Does it correlate with anything or does it just seem to randomly turn off? What apps are open when this happens?
So you can be working normally on your machine and it'll suddenly disconnect, even if the reception was previously okay. Does it correlate with wireless interference such as a microwave being used or something? 
What really worries me is how you mentioned "wired internet fails sometimes", did you install some funny piece of software? Or is your router properly configured?
Like eh.. I think a possible cause would be that the DHCP lease expiration on your router is set to some ridiculously short period, like 10 minutes, and every now and then the DHCP server doesn't rely and wham.. you got disconnected.

Aren't the Airport and Ethernet Network settings independent from each other? That would lead me to believe the problems are unrelated, or at least not directly associated. For it to be a problem with DHCP, both would have to be configured incorrectly (unless it's at the router level).
It could be a problem with your router (perhaps the wrong settings), but that doesn't explain both problems unless you have a wireless and wired router.

I've read that this has been a problem for a few with the new Macbooks/ Macbook Pros and the Airport disconnecting after a few minutes of non-use.
I had this problem using a Linksys router and researched the various Apple forums and did not find a consensus to the cause of the issue.
In my situation, I downloaded Kismac and noticed that my router was still on the default channel which was full of signals from routers owned by neighbors. I switched channels and have had fewer issues, though I still occasionally have to run through the network assitant in the preferences tab as the Macbook sometimes decides to assign itself an IP address.
That said, it really could be a variety of things, from interference (I've heard even Bluetooth) to the specific router to problems with the Airport hardware itself.
