Hey There,

I have a Samsung HDTV...about 3 years old. They are now making them with ethernet inputs, but the one I have does not have that...

I am looking to be able to stream my entire MacBook unibody screen to the TV wirelessly (like you would do with AirTunes). Here's the thing...I don't want the AppleTV because I want to stream the ENTIRE SCREEN and not just select media in iTunes.

The TV has the following input ports open:
HDMI
S-Video
RCA
something called "Service" that looks similar to USB but isn't the same

I use a Time Capsule as my wireless router and have 3 empty ethernet ports on it. It sits directly below the TV, so I wouldn't mind a wired connection from router to TV.

Does anyone know of an interface or module that would connect to my router via ethernet and to my TV through one of these video inputs. I could then select it as a monitor on my MacBook and output the monitor feed through my laptop's Wi-Fi connection to the TV?

Does anyone have any other solutions?

Your thoughts would be extremely appreciated!!!

ALSO - I have a Samsung Blu-Ray player that is ethernet enabled and streams NetFlix and Pandora. Could I unlock this to use as an interface?

What you will need is a displayport > dvi adapter for your macbook, and a dvi > hdmi adapter to your tv. By doing this it allows you to use your tv as a second monitor (or mirror) and you see the whole screen. Has nothing to do with ethernet, internet, or time capsule.

And for the blue ray player, you wont get much support as this is a Apple forum. I would suggest you google it. My guess is you cannot unlock this as nobody wants to do it.

Thanks for that...

That's not exactly what I'm looking for, though. Is there a way to do this wireLESSLY - without connecting any wires to the laptop? I'd like to be able to sit anywhere in the room, considering my laptop has the battery life, and view the screen on the TV without having anything plugged into the laptop itself.

You could look into wireless HDMI... but that's about your only option. It will seriously have nothing to do with any bit of your WLAN network. Good luck!

Mac mini?

you could plug that directly into your TV, and play your music and videos from there.
a wireless G network should handle SD movies, while i would recommend N for trying HD.

you could control it via
**apple's remote desktop (screen sharing)
**Synergy - the mini would behave (at least for the keyboard and mouse) like a second screen, when you move the mouse off the left (or whatever side you choose) side of your laptop screen, the mouse and keyboard would control the mini.
**remote buddy - gives you an onscreen menu that you can control with an apple remote, plus you can map the remote to any application with custom key presses. it's also compatible with a wii-mote which connects via bluetooth, also includes an iphone compatible web page that works as a remote.

doubtful on using the blu-ray player.

With the mini, if you wanted to mirror your laptop screen on the big screen, you could (with remote desktop), but for videos, it would not be a great image (and there would be no sound). would be better to play them locally on the mini.

That is definitely an option I hadn't considered...

I could do that, but does anyone have any more cost-effective ideas? The $500.00 is a little out of my price range.

Your only concern is being able to control the computer while it's hooked up to the TV?

Output to HDMI using the previously mentioned cables and pick up a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Plug your laptop in, and control from anywhere you'd like in the room.

IOGEAR makes a wireless VGA solution, but it's Windows only.
