Airtunes on another mac

I have 3 Macs running iTunes: laptop, desktop, and one entertainment center. I also have an Apple TV ver.1 on another TV. I'd like to be able to stream audio from my laptop to the ATV and the entertainment center Mac, preferably using Airtunes.

I'm aware of various streaming apps, but none of them have the synced audio of AirTunes, so they wouldn't work at all to "fill my house with music".

Is there a way to configure iTunes to act as an Airplay server?

iTunes does act as an Airplay server but the only devices that can act as Airplay clients are Airport Expresses, Apple TVs, Bluetooth audio devices, and upcoming audio devices from 3rd parties with Airplay support.

Your Mac or PC cannot serve as an Airplay client so you cannot stream using Airplay from one Mac to another Mac.

Thanks for the clarification on client versus server. It was counter-intuitive.

It looks like my only solution will be another Apple TV, which is a little more trouble than it's worth as the other entertainment center (with the big speakers) is an analog TV. Since AppleTV 2 is HDMI only, there really seems to be no way to play the same music through the 3 systems I wanted to at the same time. The other possibility is an airport express or similar.

I have read about the work to document the Airplay protocol, but some key aspects aren't done yet. There were also two products, Pinhead and Fairport which seem to have disappeared off the net and left no forwarding address.
