Hello all,

I'm planning to get a new Mac Pro, and would like to add right away more SSD storage.

For a couple of months, I'll HAVE to continue using my 2017 MacBook Pro (40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 compatible), and move outside with it and the external storage, that's why, to start, I'm planning not to plug a PCIe card in the MP, but rather use an eGPU + PCIe controller + 4 M.2 2 TB SSDs. Of course, later, I'll plug the card in the MP slot :)

I've read a lot about HighPoint SSD7101A-1 (mostly from you people) and know that this is a very good PCIe card for adding SSD storage.

Even if it's not officially told by HighPoint, and as far as I could understand, it should be Catalina bootable (from one of the plugged SSDs, not from RAID 0 or 1 array).

As I'm not sure to have all the skills to make my choice (hardware compatibility, resulting performances) I'd like to have your opinion about choosing another Thunderbolt 3 enclosure that the one provided by HighPoint in their RocketStor 6661A-NVMe bundle - that embeds SSD7101A-1 controller). I'm pretty sure the card will fit (length, width, etc.) but I'm a bit lost with x4, x16, lanes etc.

(BTW, I'd like to get 4 Evo Plus 2 TB, to have a 2 TB bootable SSD + a 6 TB of RAID0 storage)

For the enclosure, my choice would go on the "new" Akitio Node Titan.

Is it a good combination and is it technically at "max" of what this HighPoint controller + an eGPU can provide ?

Also, can you confirm bootability, later on the MP ? And subsidiary question (newbie question sorry), can this also boot 10.15.4 MacBook Pro through Thunderbolt 3?

Maybe nobody has already tested this specific combination, but on the paper, and with your knowledge of hardware, what do you think?

What other enclosure could do the job better ?

Thank you very much,
