Hi. Am I being slow in missing some obvious setting, or am I the only one having major issues with the alarm clock volume following the general system volume??? For example: I listen to music/podcasts/videos/whatever before going to sleep, then I turn the volume down only to find out that it affects the alarm volume as well, so I miss my alarm in the morning. Am I the only one facing this issue??? It’s extremely annoying, and unless I’m missing a setting, I find this to be a serious software design glitch! Why the Fxxk would the alarm volume be tied to the general system volume? Whyyyy? 😠

I don’t understand how I seem to be the only one finding this to be a big issue… Example: Someone sends you video (Insta/Youtube/Podcasts/whatever media platform) late at night and you turn down the volume - then you don’t hear the alarm clock in the morning because, for some idiotic reason which I still can’t understand, the alarm clock volume decreases to the same level. Again, for whatever reason, the system volume follows the set alarm clock volume. There should be a separate setting for the two, that’s my whole point! Turning off the button switch doesn’t help as in most apps you can only turn down or up the volume using those buttons…

I believe the way it is programmed is that your ringer volume is tied to the alarm volume. Your ringer volume is found in your sound settings.

My media volume is separate from my alarm / ringer volume. If I have music set to low volume before bed, my alarm is still loud.

That’s weird… My alarm volume is definitely tied to the system/media volume… I’ve already checked it multiple times… 🤷‍♂️ (iPhone 15 Plus)

Slightly similar.....99% of the time my volume is down to 0 so as not to inadvertently play sound while in places like work etc and i will occasionally turn it up then back down or i use sound via my airpods. Couple of times i've not been sure where my phone is so tried to ping it from my watch so it plays a noise. Both times its connected and played the noise but its not helped as the volume was at 0 so i couldnt hear it!

I guess we need separate independent volume control for phone ringer, media and alarm clock
Yes, that’s my thought, but the media and alarm clock volume being tied together is the main problem. The ringer/notification volume is already separate.

(I still don’t understand why nobody else seem to be bothered by this…)

The alarm volume is tied to the ringer volume, and has nothing to do with the media volume.

Increase your ringer volume (in Settings) and all will be good.

No one is complaining, because it isn't a problem.

It’s a pain in the butt. IMO, it’s not an intuitive way of doing things. I would prefer separate sliders - one for each of the three - ringer, media and alarm. They could still offer the toggle button (or check boxes) options to tie one or more together for those that prefer.

I believe the singular option ”change with buttons“ confuses things.

I’ve been using iPhone(s) for a short time now ;) and still find it frustrating.

Wow, have had this issue for years!

I thought I was the only one who couldn't figure how to adjust ringer volume, media volume, and alarm volume.

Didn't want to ask because I thought it would be a newbie question....

Is there a way to separately set the volume levels for: ringer, media/sound, and alarm ???

During a call or when a video, song or voice message is playing, you can only change the media volume which level is then always saved for the next time. When nothing with audio is playing, the volume becomes the ringer/alarm volume - it doesn’t affect the media volume set during playback And vice a versa.
If you turn off the “change ringer with volume buttons” in settings, it will only adjust the media volume even when nothing is playing at the time.

Tying alarm volume to ringer volume caught me out a number of times and I had to stop relying on my phone as an alarm until I had figured it out. My phone has been on silent mode for literally years so I never think about ringer volume at all. It's a completely unintuitive way of doing things, especially as the note under the Silent Mode toggle specifically tells you that alarms will still play when enabled - which is true - if and only if your phone ringer volume is set high enough. Dumb!

If you leave the settings app and don't have any audio playing, using the volume buttons will change the ringer volume if you select the "change with buttons" setting. The word Ringer shows up by the volume slider when you do this.

Not to hi jack this thread but Ipad is a mess too with audio just like this.
One at a time audio stream.
So frustrating.

Upon further testing, I now see that you're right. However, for me, and apparently several others who have commented it is indeed a nuisance, and there definitely should be a separate setting for media, ringer and alarm clock volumes! I, for one, very much prefer not to have my ringer volume at a high setting during the day, so it is very much a 'problem' to remember to turn it up before going to bed - it's counter intuitive when you think about it, even though I do of course use the DND mode.

Yes, exactly, thank you.
That's the way it should be, imo. I'm not going to switch to Android just because of that though, lol.

Yes, thank you, completely agree. I also tend to use the DND (silent) mode a lot during the day, so it's easy to forget, like you said.
