One thing that I've been trying to figure out...

If you flip the switch on the side of your iPhone to turn on silence mode, while it silences most of your sounds, certain apps still seem to use sounds. While on some third party apps I can understand this, the alarm in the clock app confuses me, because it will still set off your loud regular sound when the alarm goes off.

Is there a way to change this so that when the phone is in silent mode, the alarms are silenced too, other than manually changing each alarm whenever you go into this mode?

I just read the other day on the apple site that the alarm will sound even when in silent mode. They didn't talk about away to bypass that.

I know Apple adjusts features and stuff with every firmware release, and there's tons of things people complain about implementation-wise on the iPhone, but this sounds like something that would be pretty straight-forward to do... Oh well.

The Alarm is supposed to ignore the silent mode, and you will find that true in other phones. The alarm is there primarily to get your attention, especially to wake you up from sleep.

The only way around it is to manually lower the volume to zero with the volume switch.

TEG

I agree with TEG. Keeping alarms "on" while silenced sounds like the common-sense approach to me. An option to decide what sounds are/aren't included in the "silence" would be useful though.

I've never had a phone that didn't honor silent mode altogether... if the phone was on silent mode, it was silent, period. If it was in vibrate mode, it vibrated...

Now, I can completely see why this feature may be useful, but at the same time, the phones I've had in the past also had the ability to set an alarm to vibrate only...

Valuable thread. I always wondered if the alarm would go off in silent mode. Now I can safely go silent at night and get a wake up alarm in the morning!

I can understand wanting the alarm to be silent for certain things, but not for how I use it! I couldn't trust my alarms on my previous phones because I too often forgot to check and make sure that I didn't set the phone on silent and overslept or worked right through something that I was supposed to do. Options would always be nice, however!

Options? Isn't that something like Choice?

What annoys me about the alarm is that it doesn't turn the phone on. With other phones it will do this, very useful for waking you up when you have limited battery.

All the phones I have had once you set the alarm it will go off loudly. This is what I want to happen. Unless of course I am in an exam, but I would always take the battery out of the phone just to be sure. Of course not possible on the iphone.
