in iPhone's clock app we see if i set alarm and exit the app we get alartm in alert message. How is this happening, given that iPhone does not have alarm system exposed ? can i do similar thing in my application ?

Probably because the Clock app is Apple's own and does allow some kind of "in the background" process, which other alarm clocks are not allowed, thus they have to run in order to work.

It's an Apple provided application: it has access to private frameworks. You cannot do the same in your own application.
