iPod album art not modifiable - help

I rarely if ever need to post a question on a forum because rarely does an Apple product not work. but I have just about had it with iTunes!

I am a visual person, I want to see my album covers! Is this too much to ask?

At first I thought it was just going to be a pain to get artwork for all 700 or so albums, but even if I am trying to do one song at a time some work but most do not. I get "album artwork not modifiable", I have read about permissions, I have tried getting info and deleting (but when it says not modifiable it won't even let you into the artwork tab) I read about different file formats, on and on etc, etc.

Seriously, what in the hell?! I just want to complete my iTunes experience with some friggin artwork!

problem is that when it is not modifiable you cannot gete to the artwork tab to drop anything in.
 
m4a, aac files for the most part but the file has not seemed to matter
 
very weird. I have never run into that problem. You might try deleting the .plist and see if that helps. If it doesn't move it back, saying don't actually empty the trash. ;)
 
I can replicate this problem by changing the Ownership and Permissions on the song file.

Right/ctrl-click on the song in iTunes, choose "Show song file" and Get Info on it. Click the triangle next to "Ownership & Permissions" and make sure it's set to "You can: Read & Write"
When it's set to "You have: no access" then the album art becomes unmodifiable.

That would be a reason too.
 
thanks, I read that somewhere else and tried it but it does not help. all are set to read & write :)

I just don't get it.
 
no I am at work, machine is at home. can you tell me exaclty where I find the.plist
 
Hey, I've got a similiar problem....

I plug my iPod into my iBook and in iTunes I take the album art work from one song on an album and spread it to all the other songs on that same album. When I eject my iPod (see sig) the artwork does not display while I listen to the music? I plug the iPod back into my iBook, open iTunes and the artwork is there? What's with that?

I'll look, but ummm, it displays other album artwork. Like for example:

I bought the songs American Idiot and Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day both from the iTMS (both on American Idiot (album)). I got the full album for chirstmas (the actual CD) and imported it into iTunes. I then spread the artwork to the other songs. But, on my iPod it only displays artwork for the two songs I bought from iTMS. I've "spread" the artwork on other albums in the same fashion and it works fine. Is this a flaw in the version of iTunes (I have 6.0.1)?
 
Check Import Encoder Preferences

I had the same problem ("Album Artwork Not Modifiable"). I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work because I have never had this problem before. However upon closer inspection I realized that I had imported the album in WAV format.

You might try checking your import encoder preferences.

Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing > Import Using : MP3 Encoder

(Mine was somehow changed to WAV Encoder, when I changed it back to MP3 Encoder I ceased having problems...however any album you have already uploaded as a WAV file will have to be converted)

Hope that helps. Oh, If you want to see what format your file is just right click on the song, select "get info", under the Summary tab look for "Kind:" and it will say something like "MPEG audio file" or "WAV file"
 
One Solution for Vista Users

If you're encountering this problem with Vista, go into the Control Panel and disable User Account Control. UAC doesn't play nicely with iTunes 7.2. When I disabled UAC, I was able to modify Cover Art. Hope this helps some.
 
Cant Modify Album art?

Songs that are .mov may not be modifiable. Change the song to an Aiff.
If u have Quicktime Pro you can export as Aiff. Or mp4.
Then u can modify art.
 
Tune tagging

I have experienced the same problem but having tried very hard , I have some other clues that might trigger the right kind of help from one of you guys.
trashing.plist , doing a repair permission does not do it.

some .WAV files seem to be the problem but not all of them I use a fantastic new tunetagger FixTunes but as it finds name of song artist and album it is not able to transfer across the album sleeve data because of this silly error within itunes "Album Artwork Not Modifiable" , encode the same file in any other format than .WAV and then suddendly the artwork is modifiable.

So the question is if I want keep .wav files how do i get around the problem since some WAV files do not show this problem, only most of them.

HELP!!:confused:
 
Change file attributes from read only

I ran into this issue, and found this thread thanks to Google. I could add some artwork and see it, but some files gave me the error message. I went to "Get Info" in iTunes, opened the folder containing the songs (in this case, in m4a format), and looked at their properties. They were all tagged as read only. I deselected this, and now I can add artwork. Hope this helps someone. :D
 
File conversion does it

Hi guys I am back and with a fix, somehow it brings back into the arena the old Windows/Mac OSX story,All files can get artwork apart from .wav files,nevertheless, there is a silly way around it ,if you wish to keep your.wav file and have artwork , convert that .wav into .aiff seek the artwork ,here it comes for the .aiff file and for the .wav file as well, yes indeed, delete the .aiff file, now you have .wav file with artwork. Silly silly boys at Apple or Windows who knows?:cool:
 
I've actually had that problem too, in that they had artwork, but they wouldn't save any changes to the artwork (or anything else). What I did was convert them again. I know you might lose some quality (that you probably won't notice) but it's worth a try. Oh, I see you actually found that out. :)
 
guys... n hot gals, it's easy :)

u can try dis.. after the song is added to itunes library --> right click on the song and ---> convert selection to mp3

that's it... even i had the same prob dis is how i solved it

I'm a little new to this, so bear with me, please. I have begun converting my old LPs in digital format using an Ion turntable and Audacity. I did that successfully and exported a test album to iTunes. I used the .WAV as recommended. That worked. I combined the tracks into a single album in iTunes and inserted the correct song titles, etc. But I have been stopped by the "Album Artwork Not Modifiable." If I take the most recent post's suggestion and convert to .MP3, will I be able to burn an audio CD? The directions for Audacity, recommend WAV or AIFF. And if I need to use .MP3 in order to get album artwork, are there any disadvantages?
 
Are your files set to "read only"

If so, uncheck this.
Worked for me when this problem occured.
