Album Artwork for Movies...

I cannot seem to get all of my streamed movies to appear with its album artwork... only some of them appear with the movie poster image I saved to the movie... it appears in iTunes, but not on my tv...

How do I get the movie artwork to display on the tv if it is already on itunes??

I've never had a problem using it. I am using iTunes 7.4.1 (didn't upgrade to ..2 because of the ringtone fiasco). Here's how I'm doing it:

1. Rip my legally owned copy of the movie using Handbrake
2. Use the newest version of Lostify 0.7 Beta to tag everything including Producer, Director, Cast, and Crew from IMDB
3. Open Delicious library and search for the movie
4. Click on the box cover art and expand by double clicking on the image.
5. Do a CMD+Shift+4 to outline the box cover art and make a screen shot which will save as a PNG on the desktop
6. Add the Lostified movie to iTunes.
7. Get info on the movie and go to artwork, click "Add..." and navigate to your PNG.
8. Click OK and wait for a while.
9. Turn on the Apple TV and navigate to sources (I don't sync anything, just stream). Wait for it to load my media server.
10. Voila, it's there everytime. I've never encountered any issues doing it like I just described.

The reason I like Delicious Library for the artwork piece is because it really looks like a DVD Box, with the reflection and everything. They do a fantastic job with their app. I bought Delicious Library for only that reason, I don't even use it to catalog anything sicne iTunes / Apple TV does it for me. Now if only the Apple TV had the ability to browse your movies via genre. It sucks having to search through now like 100 movies.

I used to do the above dance with Lostify, but have been much happier with MetaX (freeware). It will go get all the info and cover art and after tagging the file, will move it to iTunes for you. You can also batch up a number of files to tag and move.

Lostify can move the items into iTunes for you as well. It can't do batch tagging and artwork yet. I'm happy with the song and dance that I go through. To each their own. I don't do it enough to need a solution like MetaX.

How are these files saved...

I noticed with Lostify... It creates a new tagged file... and with metaX it seems to have just tagged the info to the existing file... I think...

If I use Lostify does this mean I need to now delete the older file that has not been tagged? Otherwise I am wasting space?

Just a little confused but both programs work beautifully on the tv

That's the nice thing about Lostify. You have multiple options. You can have it overwrite the existing file if you want, but I consider that kinda dangerous. It could corrupt the file in the weird circumstance that your computer turns off in the middle of the tagging process. The option I chose was to replace the file with an identical file, identical name, and move the original to trash but do not empty trash. That way, if there's something wrong with the file, I can retrieve it from the trash. I add everything to iTunes. Take a look at it on the AppleTV and if everything is golden, I empty the trash. I'm probably a worry-wart though as I've never had a problem during the tagging process. Better safe than sorry I suppose!

So to summarize, if you like a multi step manual process go Lostify. Drag-drop, click, queue up multiple files and walk away, go MetaX.

Yeah pretty much. I'm comfortable with Lostify. Have always used Lostify. I trust Lostify. And the developer is just one regular guy that responds to eMails extremely quickly. That type of stuff is more important to me than saving 5 minutes of my life. To each their own.

thanks for all the info... I think the apple tv has to be one of the most exciting products now but especially for the future... I love mine... But the resolution for iTunes tv shows and movies absolutely blows... If you haven't tried visualhub with a 1280x720 resolution then prepare to be amazed if you do... Thanks...

Delete the file from iTunes and then re-add it. Your artwork will now appear on the TV.

I've noticed that if I change a piece of art on an already-added movie that's in iTunes (using MetaX), the art will show up in iTunes but not in TV until I delete it and re-add it.

Or reset the Apple TV, it caches the cover art. I find I need to reset my Apple TV every week or so anyway. It tends to start stuttering and getting generally unreliable. A reset (pulling the power cable out is the only way) gets it back to normal.

Well, Ed... have you thought about a lobotomy for it? I mean, it might be a little less stressful than the ElectroShock Treatment?

Seriously, though, you can fix the cover art by forcing a "your cache is out of date" message (or whatever it really is) from iTunes by deleting and then re-adding.

Not that there's anything wrong with what you're doing to your poor, defenseless TV.
