This seems to happen to me every time I do an update of MacOS. Yesterday, I updated 2 MacBook Pro's, one Intel- one Apple-based silicon, to version 12.6 of MacOS. I noticed today, again, instead of being around 60%/my setting, both laptops were pegged at 100%. Do I do this wrong? Things I did to try and get it working again:
1) Click discharge - turns briefly orange to discharge, but very quickly pops back to blue.
2) Reinstall the Helper Application
3) Close and reopen Aldente

So now I just unplugged the laptops from power, and I'll wait until they get below 60%. I seem to remember that works.

But I shouldn't have to do that every time, should I? What do others do?

I am using Pro version version 1.18, and just like week I did a full calibration (I do one every 4-5 months).

I noticed the same thing, although I don't have the pro version. Mine is set to 75% and it's currently charged to 83%. I do the same thing of letting it discharge to 75% and then plug it back in. I didn't do the reinstall Helper step.

It looks like what I did, works. I let it discharge to a full 10% below my goal, and then plug the machine back in. It seems to work fine then. It sure seems like a bug.

I noticed this on the apphousekitchen.com FAQ:

AlDente Does Not Work After Updating MacOS!

Unfortunately, AlDente temporarily does not work after a macOS update for a few users. To get AlDente to work again, just reinstall AlDente completely and everything should work as expected. If that did not help, try to shut down your MacBook entirely and unplug the power brick for a couple of minutes. Afterward, restart your MacBook, plug it in, and everything should work again.

Good catch @WildSky. On my Intel-based MacBook Pro it worked to just let it discharge below the limit and plug it back in. On the Apple M1 MacBook Pro it did not, I am trying it again - it also lost the percentage limit setting. If it doesn't work the second time I'll follow these directions. I filed it as a bug on Github too, but they know about it. Thanks!

Still not working for me overnight. I noticed this morning there's a new version 1.18. Uninstalled everything including from the user and system libraries. Reinstalled but kept getting prompts to remove the Helper app after which the app would quit. Repeated that a couple of times. A little frustrating.

Uninstalled everything again. Shut down this time. Reinstalled again and was able to open it with a prompt to install the Helper. I reset the settings, and now it's working ok. At least I think it is. I'm on battery until I get below my target 75%.

If this doesn't work, I might give up on it for a while and revisit it another time.

Well @WildSky I have been fiddling with this all day, trying all the suggestions, and it still overcharges - and when I hit discharge it goes back to charge on its own. I am uninstalling it, spending too much time getting this to work. Apple's optimization is far from perfect, maybe it's better on 12.6. But I am done with this.

I hear you. I was feeling that frustration level this morning, but got it to work. It took no less than 3 uninstalls including from the user and system library files, and some wonky behavior about removing the Helper app. And then in the middle of that seeing there was an update. Somehow through no particular cloud-parting step, it reinstalled correctly, I was prompted to install the Helper app, and lo and behold it works. How's that for a scientific explanation?
