When I am using my Airpods listening to music/streaming on my iPhone, I do not receive notification sounds through my Airpods.
I also have an Apple Watch if it matters. I would like to have the phone on silent and my watch on silent but still be able to hear an audible alert through my Airpods. All I get is just the haptic from my watch which is ok but I do not feel it at times when I'm jogging or running.

I have also tried with the phone with the ringer on and the watch with sounds on but I still do not get the notification sounds.

Is there something that I am missing?

Thanks.

It must be routing the notifications to your Apple Watch. I do receive phone calls on my Airpods when using them for fitness. Try using the Airpods and iPhone only.

Were you able to get this fixed? I'm having the same problem with mine.

I Know this is an old post but just in case for anyone else - you have to go into the watch settings on your phone and turn show alerts to off whenever you want it to work through your airpods. The downside is now you won't get the notification on your wrist. Then you just switch it back on when you're not wearing the airpods.

Old thread, but I’m here for the same reason; no sound in AirPods, only haptic on the watch. Is there a fix besides the one above
