Currently I am using my mixer /audio interface on my old 2011 MacBook Pro with HighSierra. But during the next year I would like to upgrade to the new 16 inch MacBook Pro with an M1 chip. Is anybody here who did the shift as well from an Intel to an Apple Silicon chip and succeeded in using his more than 10 years old firewire devices like mine?
i read posts from people smuggling in old kexts in newer OSs. But I don’t know if that will do the trick because of the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon and from 32 to 64 apps.
it would be petty if I had to buy a new mixer for using on my future M1 MacBook.

Any expertise?
tx! Alex

Can't help regarding a mixer, but I have an old Digital8 Sony Handycam that connects fine to my M1 MBA via FireWire through a DisplayPort adapter.

To connect it physically, you would probably need a couple of dongles.
Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter
Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter
Firewire 9-pin to 6-pin cable

Then once you have all those dongles/adapters, you might get the OS to recognize it using this method:
YMMV etc.
