Alias

I have set up aliases on my mobile me account and would like mail sent to my aliases received by my iphone into seperate inboxes. I assumed that to do this I would need to set up a mobile me account for each alias on my iphone, but can't seem to. The account gets rejected on verification.

Try this just did and it worked for me.

You can then have the alias acct setup on iphone to send and receive mail. However, any mail received at your alias address will also be receive at the main mobileme acct on phone. Not sure if there is a way around that.

Yes that worked, but only for 1 of my aliases. It won't let me add more than 1

You can! Once the account is verified and working w/ 1 alias, exit out and edit the info.

Use notepad to enter your various email aliases (there is no comma in the mail setup): alias1@mac.com, alias2@me.com, alias3@mac.com

Copy the whole string and go back to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Alias Acct > address

In the "address" field, paste the string of MM addresses. Back out and launch the Mail app. I turned of my MobileMe so as not to duplicate emails. You will loose Push MM email, but can keep all the other MM features like Find my iPhone, Calendars, Contacts.

Now when you compose email, the list of aliases should show up in the chooser. Hope that helps!

To clarify, you went into your MM (not alias) account on iPhone and shut off the email function so that only the alias account is active. Doing so prevents duplicates, but the email going to the alias account has to be pulled??

Yes, that's correct. For me, it's not a problem since I really don't use push email and check it manually when I feel like it. And if I do use push email, it's for my Exchange acct, not MM. But you may not want to give that up.

When I launch Mail on the iPhone, then go into one my Gmail accounts on the iPhone and hit the Compose icon I noticed that I can select one of my MM aliases (actually any of email addresses) for the "From" field. Does that mean the email I am composing is now being sent from/by Gmail?

Hmmm, when I launch Mail and immediately (not going into any of my email accounts) hit the Compose icon I can also select any of my email addresses for the "From" field. How does it know which service (MM, Gmail, AOL, etc.) to use to send the email?

Must be that Mail on the iPhone knows what service to link to each email address I have? If the "From" field is filled with an @AOL address use AOL to send the email?

You can but I believe it says "sent via your@gmail.com" but I'm not positive. Give it a shot.

Can send to the Gmail with multiple email addresses, but sending out via Mail on iPhone it will only use the default. So the "trick" the works with MM doesn't work with Gmail.
