Hi everyone -- I have the rare opportunity to test BOTH my Alienware C2D m11x and my brand new (TODAY!) Macbook Air 11" 1.6Ghz 4GB.

Over this weekend I'd like to do some testing -- if anyone has any requests I'll do my best to do so.

I like the mba better but I gotta admit even though the alienware is a thick little **** its nice looking in its own way. Would be nice having one, still wouldn't buy it though :p

Nice to know I'm not the only one to have both!

QQ, did you get your M11x before Apple released the 11" Air? If so, would you have bothered getting the M11x?

I ask as I got my M11x a couple of months before the Air was released and I probably wouldn't have got the M11x if the Air was available. I find I have to force myself to use the M11x over the Air.

Interested in hearing your opinion.

Phew, I thought this was going be a ghastly vs. argument thread, which would be plain silly as they both serve markedly different purposes imo.

Nice piccies :). Next to the mba, the m11x looks like a 13"!

I have the m11x and upgraded it to add the SSD...big difference!
I bought a 13" MBA and truthfully like its weight better just not sure its good for gaming yet (even with a windows instance).

Tough call as I am contemplating selling the m11x....but I dont think the MBA does gaming ....damn the deliemma....

If you do have Crysis, a benchmark between the two would be nice. :)

Just more of a curiosity thing, because on notebook check it says that the air averages 58 fps on low for the GPU benchmark. It would be cool to see if thats actually true.

I'll give it a try -- Crysis or Crysis Warhead?

I had both for a few months before I decided to sell my M11x and stick with the 11.6 MBA. They are two different computers for different purposes and the M11x is definitely a little beast. But I found it to be too heavy and thick for an ultraportable, and I soon realized I didn't have the time to game on the road as much as I thought.

When the new MBA came out, I knew the 11 was exactly what I was looking for: a super thin, lightweight computer that had decent power and could even game a little in a pinch. I debated for a few months because I just bought the M11x in August of last year, but in December I bought the MBA and I found it to be the most versatile computer I've ever owned (for my needs). It's much more powerful than my old Acer netbook, has a fantastic keyboard, excellent screen that really puts the M11x's to shame, and can actually game a bit. Honestly I've been really surprised at what a champ this little guy is at casual gaming (SC2, Amnesia and the latest PoP in Win 7).

After a few months I realized the MBA was everything I needed and that my M11x was just collecting dust, so I just sold it a few weeks ago. It was a great little computer, but it just didn't fit my needs as well as the MBA did and it got a good new home. Looking back on it, I probably wouldn't have bought the M11x if the new MBA was out last summer.

Though I do miss the lighting of the M11x, especially the keyboard!

For that thickness, I sure hope the m11x performs better...

I'm not a huge fan of the air, but damn, that m11x looks ugly.

I remember seeing a hot deal to buy a m11x for 600 something bucks not too long ago. I'm not a hardcore gamer at all. I went for the MBA for its form factor, portability and it suits my needs. m11x is a very powerful machine for its size. But still I wouldn't carry it around all that much.

It's $600 right now at alienware.com, but I'd still choose a MBA over it anyday. ;)

I got in on the original m11x with its low price. Added the 3 yr warranty and Accidental Damage. Would be a loss to sell, but I will probably do so as I am just not using it enough.

I had the M11x R1 and loved that machine; however I find the gaming on the 11" Air not bad at all compared to the R1. I haven't felt like I missed anything by upgrading to the MBA 11". I think that OSX and the elegance of the Air is a huge benefit over the M11x. I think the R2 version would probably have been a more noticeable improvement over the 11" in terms of overall performance.

I have the m11x r2. I really like the speed, but I am thinking about getting a MBA 13 as well.

how can you even compare these two?
m11x is definitely one of the most ugly machines ever seen!
