All 15in MBP screens are messed up, even yours

Let me start off by saying that I own a 15in Coreduo 2 MBP. I have been increasingly frustrated by the way my screen is so bright in the middle and so much darker in the bottom right hand of the screen. I have looked at other MBP's and even the new LED screens and all MBP's are like this. To test your system, simply do this:

Open a finder window and place it in the middle/middle-left side of the screen then open another in the bottom right hand corner. Compare the brightness of the white background in both windows. I have never seen a MBP ANYWHERE where the window in the bottom right hand corner was not darker.

I know I am going to catch some grief on this, but I am interested in other opinions/views.
 
If you're complaining about uneven backlighting, it's not that common.
 
It's more than that. I am talking about uneven backlighting in the same area in all 15in MBP's. I am not really ranting, I just wanted to open up the discussion and see if everyone else saw it to.
 
Going on record saying that every single MBP out there has messed up screens is a bit of a leap. However I too have noticed that of all the MBP's I personally checked out, their screens where all dissapointingly inferior in viewing angle and backlighting evenness compared to some of the panels Apple used in their older laptops. Just look at the bottom-right window straight on (by moving your head) and they will be the same colour as when your head were in the middle looking at the middle window. It's just a question of viewing angle.
 
All LCD displays are messed up. What else is new?

Just as the CRT before it, the TFT LCD display is an imperfect technology. Only now we don't have to worry about problems like poor geometry, maladjusted convergence, uneven focus, magnetic interference, and phosphor wear.

Today we get uneven backlighting, backlight bleed, poor viewing angles, slow response times, and reduced color gamuts. To make matters worse, the TN panels used in laptops are worse than most in several of these performance metrics. It's the price we pay to have thin, light, low-power displays that we can take with us anywhere we go.

In any case, it doesn't hurt for consumers to make noise about these issues. That's our role in forward progress. But it would be wrong to single out Apple and its laptops. The truth is that there are only a handful of LCD manufacturers in the world, and those manufacturers provide panels to virtually every laptop maker in existence. There are no special "Apple" panels out there, and Apple has very little control over panel quality other than to select another OEM when return rates get too high.

As for the new LED-backlit 15.4" MBP, I think it has an excellent display for a laptop. Is it perfect? Not really. If I look really hard, I can see a slight bit of uneven brightness in the corners when - and only when - I fill the screen with a solid color. And sure, who wouldn't want better viewing angles on these things?

But in the end, I have never, ever seen an LCD display - whether in a laptop or on a desktop - that didn't have some flaw that a discerning eye could identify. As a result, I've taught myself to stop looking for perfection and only reject a display that has flaws beyond what I consider acceptable for daily use. I learned to do the same thing with the good ol' CRT of yesteryear as well. Being overly critical of things like this can only lead to constant disappointment.
 
I think its just the viewing angle on these screens are just horrible giving you the illusion of being dimmer at the bottom. (maybe, maybe not?) The reason why think this is because when I go eye level at every depth of the screen the brightness is the same.
 
Mine is perfect, and you don't have any authority to claim that all mbp screens are messed up. This thread makes me wonder if you are indeed a troll...
 
I used to think this was an uneven illumination issue as well, but it seems like something else.

When you do that test you mentioned, yes, you'll see that in the bottom right corner especially that white finder window will look darker.

The thing is, if you change your viewing angle, so you are looking at that bottom right corner straight on, it will actually be just as bright.

It seems more like some sort of viewing angle issue almost.

Frankly it used to bug me more (to the point that I returned my old C2D MBP), but it doesn't bother me as much any more because I realized it was only noticeable when doing that experiment to test it out (putting an all white background in that area).

I couldn't ever really notice it when watching movies, viewing photos or web browsing or even typing, frankly (or at least, when typing with the document window fully opened, it still didn't really bother me that much).
 
I'm glad that you find it in your power to claim that all of the MBP's 15" LCD displays are somehow defective, so I'm sure you'll respect my decision to regard your opinion as bull refuse.

Yeah me too. I consider myself pretty darn picky when it comes to screens and uneven lighting, and color problems as I spend hours a day looking at photos and such on a variety of screens and spent almost 20 total hours of looking at screens before finding an LCD external (in my price range, i know there are a lot better out there then the one in my sig, but it is one of the evenest as far as color and backlighting of the brand! haha) that made me happy and was by far the pickiest critic when my BF was picking out his new Flat Panel Tv... and ummm

My LCD is PERFECT. No unevenness at all. I know i've lucked out with my comp so far, but.. I'd have to say I think you probably don't have quite the experience to say "ALL Macbook Pro LCDS are uneven" ...

Anyone know if the regular Macbooks are like this too? Or just the MBPs?

It's been a much bigger issue with mbps, but I'm sure a few macbooks have the problem as well. Frankly, this thread needs to be locked now...it's gone way too far. STOP feeding the TROLL!!!!
 
Not a troll at all my friends, just stating what i think is very obvious. Zadillo, I am glad that you see it too.

I was so frustrated with my first MBP that I demanded that the screen be replaced because the whites are just way darker in the bottom right hand corner than the rest of the screen. Apple gave me my laptop back with a new replaced LCD, same problem. I started taking a closer look at MBP's at the Apple Stores and I notice it on everyone.

Sounds like I have started some type of flaming war that I have not intended. But do what I suggest and try it and if the dimmer whites are not on your MBP, awesome! I think that is great. Just somehow I have noticed it on everyone that I have ever seen. But maybe it is just the MBP's in the Houston area! If you watch the news, we have a lot of wackos down here, they could be affecting the stock of MBP's too!

Hey, I don't even own a Mac yet, so I can't comment on the screens... but if you had titled this thread "Are all 15 inch MBP screens messed up?" instead of "All 15in MBP screens are messed up, even yours", I'm willing to bet that you wouldn't be getting called a troll right now. :)
