After running the app "Air Yell" for the first time, then shutting my iPhone off and turning it back on now all my 3rd part apps crash when I try to launch them. I tried syncing with iTunes, problem still not fixed. Any ideas?!

Problem fixed! Held the power+home for a few seconds, screen went white for 30 seconds then hooked it up to itunes, white screen went away and wal-lah! my iphone 3rd party apps work again...who knows why this worked?

I sure hate to interrupt this thread to yourself. :) (by the way you can edit your posts, you don't need to be creating new posts each time unless someone else responds). But anyway... the issue of none of the 3rd party apps working (and no music or videos appearing as well) has been an issue for a while now. There are already a number of threads about this. If you click on the link in my signature below you will see my solution (which was to revert back to iTunes 7.7.0). However, iTunes 8.0 was just released and in 2 days firmware 2.1 will be released as well. It is hoped that these will be a permanent fix for that issue.

Are you running iTunes 8.0 yet?

Yes, that is correct. iTunes 8 is not the solution. The fix is supposed to be Friday's 2.1 firmware.

Well, I've been reading this on any number of threads, but what is the source of the understanding that the solution to the 3rd party apps debacle will be in the 2.1 firmware? Did this come from Apple or is it just a specualtion that's being repeated as fact?

I don't think it is a certainty that 2.1 will be the fix. At this point I think it is just "hope" that 2.1 fixes this issue.

However, if new firmware is the fix, that would imply 2.0.2 is broken. But the way I fixed the issue of "no 3rd party apps working" (and it has worked to this day since Aug 16th) was to downgrade from iTunes 7.7.1 back to 7.7.0 (while still running 2.0.2 firmware). So I am a little skeptical (but hopeful) that 2.1 will fix the issue. Especially now since it appears that going to iTunes 8.0 (from a working 7.7.0) causes the problem again (although mine iPhone is still working fine since I installed iTunes 8.0 and have synced with it a few times.)

The official list of fixes for 2.1 on the iPod Touch (that has the same issue as the iPhone does) listed these in particular...

- fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes if you have lots of 3rd party applications
- other bug fixes

I doubt the first one has to do with the issue of "all 3rd party apps crashing" but issues with individuals apps not working which I and others still have.

I found this post on the Apple.com discussion forums here...

"This is a problem for lots of us. Tomorrow (Friday) Apple will release version 2.1 of the iPhone firmware, which is supposed to fix this. If the experience of iPod Touch users is a guide, it has, in fact, done that."
