All apps disappeared after iCloud sync?

Hey everyone

I turned on automatic iCloud syncing on my iPhone 4S last night before sleeping, and I woke up this morning to see that all the non-stock apps had disappeared. Hoping to restore my apps I synced my phone with my computer (I had synced it last night as well), my apps got reinstalled onto my phone, but all their data was gone (did not remember logins for any apps, all game history gone, etc.). Has anyone experienced this issue as well? How can I restore my app data?

App data is contained in your backup. Restore form backup.

Did you turn on iTunes syncing, too? If so, turn it off as it will conflict with iCloud syncing.

These are different - WiFi syncing is for transferring content (movies, iPhoto albums, music, etc) to your phone wirelessly, versus doing it via USB like before iOS 5.

iCloud will sync your calendars, contacts, mail, notes and reminders between your iOS devices and Macs (and PCs). This happens OTA (over the air).

But - with either you have the option of doing a backup to either iCloud or to your Mac (or PC). If you turn on iCloud backup, by default it turns off backing up to iTunes on your Mac. This backup contains camera roll photos, videos and app data/settings.

iCloud backup is handy because if you need to replace your iOS device, you simply enter your credentials and all the data is restored OTA, camera roll pictures are restored, purchased apps are redownloaded and music is redownloaded (purchased and, eventually, what's on iTunes Match). Movies will have to wait until you get home to sync off your Mac because the studios wont allow re-downloads.

How do you do a restore via the iCloud app? I thought I knew but it is not obvious. I see the backup but no way to restore. Thx, Mindy

I believe you have to reset to factory via iTunes and a USB cable, then choose to set up the phone as new, unplug and enter your iCloud credentials.

You have to reset the phone (settings - general - reset - erase all contents and settings). Then when the phone boots up, it will give you the option to restore from iCloud backup.
