All Contacts Lost

Since down loading el Capitan I have a contact app but it is empty sates NO CARDS I can still use email and contacts are still on my phone and iPad. Any help in how to resolve this problem or is it a software issue.. Thanks Jim

are you sharing contacts in icloud with your mac? is it enabled on the mac? (system preferences>icloud>contacts)...

Thanks for that, yes I it was enabled in the cloud. However, I have solved problem. I logged on to I cloud through safari and went to system preferances and clicked on to advance and then restore contacts. This has solved 90% of the problem and I do have all my contacts but do not have groups. I think I can live with that unless you have any good ideas. Thanks again for your help
