there seems to be a long pending issue with iOS 10 up next widget, where it does not display all day events and birthdays. Has anyone found a solution for this?

Without displaying this, this widget is pretty useless.

For whatever reason, bug or deliberate, they dont bother showing them. I use an app called Events Widget to do it, works a treat even with the local and subscribed Google Calendars i have set up. :-

Ok thanks. I am not a big fan of granting a third party app access my calendar, so trying to find a way to overcome this limitation of the stock calendar app. But will definitely try your suggestion once.
The developer does not seem to be updating this app anymore. Last updated in Sep 2015.

Mine will show things like alarms, meetings, etc. It won't show birthdays though. The Calendar widget will show birthdays. If you can't see the birthdays then go into the calendar app and up top click on that 3-line thing next to the search..it will change the view to a list. It is so stupid that Apple forces you to use the list view just for the calendar widget to work.

Yes it shows all day events on the day of event on calendar widget. But the issue is that it does not show the same event a day or two before (upcoming events) in the up next widget.

Yes exactly. The calendar widget starts showing that once you have calendar app viewed in schedule view. But the up next widget just never shows all day events. It only displays meetings.

I see, yeah, essentially the only workable solution for looking ahead seems to have been and still be a third party widget that supports that.

Been using it for ages now and never had an issue. I found it via this forum as well. To do what you want to do a third party app is required.

Yeah, unfortunately that's the case even these days, and more so before iOS 10 when the Calendar widget didn't even show all day events. I've been using the Events Widget for a while myself until a newer more updated Agenda: Widget+ came out.

I'm not really a fan of sharing calendar/reminder information with third parties, but I do find the ability to quickly see a day or so ahead when it comes to my calendar and reminders (as well as being able to see full day events) a useful enough of a tradeoff.

If you can get passed concerns using a third party widget, "Agenda Widget+" shows all day events and is a good alternative. Doesn't show alarm clock or reminders, but is a solid alternative.

And they have a companion Reminders+ widget as well (which can be installed separately). I was waiting for Events Widget to be updated for iOS 10, but Agenda: Widget+ has been an even better replacement in a sense.

Events Widget was my favorite, but it appears to be abandon-ware now.

Well, it still does what it was meant to do and still works fine, but certainly hasn't been updated to iOS 10 widget design, and no new features are added (or bugs fixed, not that I really ran into any issues). I guess the good thing is that there is at last one fairly good alternative now.

Actually a few decent alternatives, but Agenda+ is my recommendation for the OP.
