Hi all,

Had a few issues with my 2015 desktop, and had to reinstall Big Sur and restore from time machine, now whenever I download a file I get the following error message " is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Bin." I have tried to download each file multiple times but get the same result the trying to open them.

Has anybody any ideas on how to solve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

What are you downloading, from what site? Can you try downloading from other sites to see if you get the same problem?

You're either pwned or you are downloading shadyware.

For the latter: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine filename

For the former: reinstall

Hi,

The file I am downloading are from legal and trustworthy sites.

I was hoping that a reinstall would not be necessary.

Since posting my original message I have looked on the Apple support site and it appears that this is an issue that has been floating around for a while with various version of Mac OS and nobody seems to have come up with a solution that work for everybody.

If you can give a specific site and item to download then others can try it out to see if it is a general issue, or just something with your system.
