With current flash memory prices, no. Big SSDs still cost a fortune and currently, 512GB is the biggest size. In HDs, that is 3TB. It works in MBA as it has never had lots of storage
 
You can stick a 128gb ssd in it and use a large external storage hdd for it. That's about as best you can do.
 
Still a SSD for the OS and "essential" programs with a platter based drive for storage would be a sweet combination. With Apple leaning more and more towards a instant-on world I would not doubt it will be far behind.

Hell, Gateway does it.

Sounds good to me! Throw a 64gb/128gb ssd in there and add in the 500gb/1tb hard drive and I'm good to go! :) u can choose which programs u wanna put where

Would it make sense to build an iMac with all flash memory like the new MacBook airs?

Perhaps Apple could include a chunk of high speed flash for the OS. Applications, etc would be installed on a traditional hard drive. This could create an "instant-on" OS.
