Are there any media player apps that will act as a client for Real Player and Windows Media Player? I get tired of calling up each one for whatever reason and would like to have them both in one place to use. I really only use them for radio and a video download now and then. If Adium can do it for instant messaging why not something for players?

VLC will play Windows Media files and streams if they aren't too new (it doesn't support the very latest MS codecs), but so far nobody but Real has a working Real player, so you're out of luck there.

Fortunately, the newest Real Player isn't all that bad, certainly compared to the previous version.

Only Windows Media Player 9 plays WM9 files. Nothing else will--not MPlayer, not VLC, and no QuickTime codec. However, you have options with older WMV format files. Most Real files are in a proprietary Real format. There is at least one other Real streaming media player. However, it is not free.
